We build private business software that is secure and easy to use.
A small business or a family should be able to have a private place for its files, chat, calendar and documents without becoming an IT department. We take open-source software, set it up properly, keep it updated and run it for you. You use it, and we keep it running.
What we care about
Secure by default
We start from software that is open for anyone to inspect, set it up carefully, and keep it updated, so you do not have to.
Easy for everyone
The person who runs your team does not need to be technical. Adding someone, resetting a password and checking your plan all happen in one dashboard.
Honest about the details
We tell you what we can and cannot do, and we would rather say "not yet" than promise something we cannot back up.
Questions people ask us
Who is behind PrivNest?
PrivNest, LLC, a small company in the United States. We run the servers ourselves, and you can reach us at [email protected].
Is PrivNest new?
Yes. We are an early-stage company. That means we keep things simple, answer our own email, and tell you plainly what is ready and what is still being built.
What is it built on?
Nextcloud, a well-known open-source platform for files, chat, calendars and documents. PrivNest is an independent hosting company. We are not affiliated with Nextcloud GmbH.
Why not just use Google or Microsoft?
For many people those are fine. PrivNest is for people who would rather keep their files on a private server run by a company small enough to answer their email, using open-source software they can always take elsewhere.
Where is my data kept?
On hardware we own, in the United States.
Can you see my files?
We run the servers, so like any host we can reach the system when something needs fixing. Only the people you give accounts to can open your folders. For a folder that must stay closed even to us, you can turn on end-to-end encryption.
What happens if my payment is late?
Your workspace can be paused, but nothing is deleted at that point. The Terms explain the details.
What if I want to leave?
You can export your files and data whenever you like, and there is no exit fee.
Can I try it first?
Yes. Your first 7 days are free.
